20th anniversary of the lecture series Mathematics in everyday life

The Bidebarrieta library will once again host the talks every Thursday from 4th May until 25th May.

The Bidebarrieta library is once again a meeting point for mathematics, with the celebration of the “Mathematics in everyday life” cycle of conferences, this year celebrating its 20th anniversary. The Basque Center for Applied Mathematics – BCAM, together with the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Bilbao City Council, and Radio Euskadi, is participating in the organisation of the new edition. The talks will take place every Thursday at 19:00 from 4 May until 25 May.

The first talk will be given by the musician Iñigo Ibaibarriaga Moja (Klem Laboratory) and the mathematician Raul Ibañez (UPV/EHU) who will talk about The mathematical objects found by the composer Tom Johnson on Thursday 4 May. On this day the talk will open with a concert by Ensemble Expentia, a group that will perform pieces by Tom Johnson.

On 11 May we move on to Mathematics… in film, with Jose María Sorando Muzas, mathematician and writer.

The magician and mathematician Carlos Vinuesa del Rio (IES Villa de Valdemoro, Madrid) will bring magic and mathematics together on Thursday 18 May.

To end the cycle of conferences, on 25 May Raul Ibañez will interview José María Yturralde López, where they will talk about his art and its relationship with mathematics.
